Borovets climbing & mountaineering is one of the newest summer outdoor activities in Borovets resort. We are glad to inform you that the resort is offering rock climbing activities and alpinism, variety of touristic programs, technical traverses, via ferratas and more.

The people behind Borovets climbing & mountaineering are Martin Marovski & Victor Varoshkin – two of the best known Bulgarian climbing professionals, also known as managers of “Climbing and alpinism school”.

The team is experienced in expeditions in the Bulgarian mountains, the Alps, the Carpathian Mountains, the South and central Andes, Karakoram and the Himalayas. Their expeditions and the participation in national and international competitions proves their professionalism – mountain climbing republican champions, 3-time winners of the prestigious award of the Bulgarian mountain climbing & alpinism federation for extreme technical climbing. They are the first Buglarians  to climb Cerro Torre – the most challenging peak in Patagonia and one of the most difficult in the world.

"North-East ridge of Malyovitsa"

Level 4: Experts only

Ascent to the Malyovitsa peak via the panoramic North-East ridge, via the Malka Malyovitsa and Orleto peaks. Overall duration is about 8 hours.

Тraverse "Aleko”

Level 4: Experts only

A beautiful and panoramic traverse via Aleko peak, Bezimenen peak and Musala peak. Beautiful scenery all along the route, with splendid views of the Musalenski circus and the Beli Iskar glacier valley.

Trionite - “Traverse of the Gods”

Level 4: Experts only

Technical traverse, using basic alpine equipment, which challenges the highest peaks on the Rila mountain: Musala peak-Malka, Musala peak-Irechek peak via the rock ridge Trionite. The main technical obstacles are located at 2800-2925 m. above sea level and the overall length exceeds 10 km. Features aerial, lovely and varied views of all the Rila mountains and the neighboring valleys. Good physical and psychological training and skills required.

Traverse "The Devil’s Needles"

Level 4: Experts only

Technical traverse in one of the most inaccessible and spectacular alpine areas in Bulgaria’s mountains. It starts with a trek to BAK shelter, followed by an ascent of Zliya zab mount and 40 m rappel to the rock formation Halkata. The traverse follows the ridge of the Upper Devil’s Needle to reach the peak of the Red Devil’s Needle. Descend to the White couloir with 4 rappels down the 200 meter east face of the needle. The route crosses one of the most extreme and picturesque trails in the Rila mountain. Strong physical and psychological training and skills required.

Climbing of the classic Via Ferrata near Malyovitsa lodge and descent via the Ovcharski couloir. Two routes are available with different levels of difficulty, depending on the clients’ skills and training. Good physical and psychological training and skills required.

Rock climbing site Vodohvashtaneto (water catchment)

Location: GPS 42.2537N 23.6003E

Number of routes: 19

Average length of the routes: 25 m.

Difficulty class: 3a to 7a+

Altitude: 1450 m

Rock mount located at about 100 m. above the Musalenska Bistritsa river bed in proximity to the path going from Borovets to Musala lodge and Musala peak. Start from Borosport Information center in the Rila hotel, distance about 20 min. The location offers good climbing conditions, especially in the hot summer months. The routes are equipped with bolts for sports climbing and are predominantly easy – class 3а to 7a+. This is a comfortable and pleasant site suitable for absolute beginners to moderately skilled climbers.

Climbing site “The treasure hunter’s rock”


Location: GPS 42.2534N   23.6002E

The rock mount is located at approximately 200m above Musalenska Bistritsa river. After reaching the climbing site "Vodohvashtaneto", a well groomed path takes us south toward the climbing site “The treasure hunter’s rock”. The site is named after a treasure hunter's ladder found near the site. The place offers great rock climbing conditions, ideal for a mountain escape in those hot summer days. The routes are equipped with bolts for sports climbing, offering both easy and more difficult lines with difficulty class from 3c to 7a+,7b. 

Rock climbing activities

The lessons are individual or in group.

The focus is on the sheer fun of climbing. It is suitable for people with some climbing experience as well as for absolute beginners making their first steps in mountain climbing. This is the time to give it a try!

Rock climbing tuition

The tuition covers all basic elements of sports climbing – knots, safety measures and belaying technique, setting up top belays and route cleaning and safety usage of the equipment.
